Genetics of the XXI Century
“GENETICS OF THE XXI CENTURY” INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS TOOK PLACE IN MOSCOW

On 25-28 May 2019 "Genetics of the XXI Century", International Scientific Congress, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the FSBI Research Center for Medical Genetics and the 50th anniversary of the Medical Genetic Service of the Russian Federation, took place inMoscow.
It opened officially on May 25, 2019 at the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall.  Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Stepanov A.V. and Borovskaya M.A. werethe first to congratulate FSBI Research Center for Medical Genetics and the Medical Genetics Service of Russia on the anniversary. They informed the audience that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education decided to name FSBI RCMG after its organizer, Academician BOCHKOV NIKOLAI PAVLOVICH, in connection with the anniversary. The Congress received welcoming addresses from the Minister of Science and HigherEducation of the Russian Federation Zotyukov M.M., the Minister of Healthcare of theRussian Federation Skvortsova V.I., Academician-Secretary of the Medical Sciences Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences RAS Academician Starodubov V.I., the All-Russian Union of Patients, and from the European Human Genetics Society (ESHG). At the ceremonial opening of the International Scientific Congress "Genetics of the XXI century", a gold medal "For outstanding contribution to the development of medical genetics",established by the FSBI RCMG Scientific Council, was presented. In the anniversary year, Khusnutdinova Elza Kamilevna, Professor of the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of the Ufa Scientific Center of RAS (Russia), Milan Macek, Professor of the Chair of Biology and Medical Genetics of Charles University of Prague (Czech Republic), and Thomas Liehr, Professor of the Institute of Human Genetics at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena
(Germany) have received the medal. The Association of Medical Geneticists of Russia rewarded seven geneticists from differentregions of Russia for many years of diligent work and high professionalism: Voronina Valentina Georgievna (Vladivostok), Matulevich Svetlana Alekseyevna (Krasnodar), FedotovValery Pavlovich (Voronezh), Nazarenko Lyudmila Pavlovna (Tomsk), Kononenko Nina Ivanovna (Kursk), Osipova Elena Valeryevna (Izhevsk), Mikhalchuk Valentina Vladimirovna
(Tyumen). The Russian Society of Medical Geneticists presented S.N. Davidenkov Medal to the Medicaland Genetic Service specialists for their contribution to the development of medical genetics and personnel training. The winners were Khodunova Anna Andreyevna, health care  organizer; Zakharova Ekaterina Yuryevna, Doctor of medical science, Head of the Hereditary Metabolic Diseases Laboratory of the FSBI Research Center for Medical Genetics; AnnaTylki-Szymanska, Professor of the Children's Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw. Many congratulations came from colleagues from the neighboring countries. Welcoming addresses and telegrams were received from Armenia, Belarus, and Turkmenistan. Good wishes on the anniversary came from the Tomsk National Research Medical Center, from the Federal Research Center Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of RAS, from the Institute of General Genetics RAS team, from the First Pavlov State  Medical University of St. Petersburg, National Research Center Kurchatov Institute, from theFederal State Autonomous Institution National Medical Research Center of Children's Health of the Ministry of Health of Russia, from the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of the Ufa Federal Research Center of RAS, from V.A.Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology, St. Petersburg Medical State Center, Federal State Budgetary Institution Yakut Scientific Center for Complex Medical Problems, from the State Budgetary Health Care Institution Republican Center for Medical Genetics (Ufa), and many others.  The Congress became one of the most important international events for the professional community of medical geneticists and was held with the support of the European Society ofHuman Genetics (ESHG). The program of the "Genetics of the XXI Century" International Scientific Congress included a wide range of topical research and practical issues of medical genetics. Outstanding experts from Russia and countries of near and far abroad (USA, Czech Republic, South Korea, Great
Britain, Lebanon, Estonia, China, Spain, India, Peru, France, Poland, Germany, Italy, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia) gathered at the Congress - a total of about 1,400 participants. 174 reports were heard at the plenary and sectional sessions.They discussed mass and selective screening for hereditary metabolic diseases. German experts shared European experience of early diagnosis thereof. There was broad discussion of congenital and hereditary diseases epidemiology issues, the provision of medical and genetic care in the CIS countries, genetic and cellular approaches for personalized treatment, reproductive technologies, oncogenetics. Many reports were devoted to the problems of molecular diagnostics of various forms of hereditary pathology, including nervous system diseases, impaired vision and hearing. They also considered treatment and diagnosis of orphan diseases. Reports of Russian experts, including the FSBI RCMG researchers, have confirmed that the Russian medical genetics ranks alongside the world leaders. Many unique data presented in the reports have significantly contributed to world science. The conference was accredited in the system of continuing medical education. https://genetics21.ru/
